Themes of work

As an organisation it is important to us that we develop meaningful activities, events and projects that our community want and need. We conduct regular surveys and consultations with our community and centre users to ensure we are providing what is needed. What we have developed has organically grown from the past 10 years of experimentation and gives us a template to now focus on for future development.

Our work comes under three broad themes that make up the whole:

  • Being Human
  • Arts
  • Environmental Sustainability

Being Human:

We aim to example good working practices across all our projects, activities and volunteering programme and showcase what being a human can look like when we remove barriers and prejudice and connect through commonality and life experience. We offer self employment to core team members so they can focus their time and energy on their projects in a way that supports them to live a fulfilled life. Example: Our Public Living Room initiative offers supported space for people to just be, sit an have a cuppa and a chat.

Arts:

Our aim is to provide access to arts activities and events to people who have barriers in accessing the arts or who feel art isn’t for them. Throughout the year we run numerous creative workshops working towards our two annual light events – Our Lantern Parade in the Spring and a Festive Lightwalk near Christmas.
Alongside this we showcase that art is for everyone through our creative workshops, Knit and Natter group and Film Clubs. We also mentor young people in perfomance, script writing, set design & production, technical roles and marketing, through our Youth Club productions and various events. We also encourage our community members to showcase their creative talents at our annual ‘Reans Got Talent’ show.

Environmental Sustainability:

This theme is embedded in all our work as an organisation and how we operate. We strive to minimise our impact on the earth’s resources as well as demonstrating  permaculture and share economy activities to help normalise them within the community. Our Wolves Waste Not initiative focusses on the sharing of resources and saving food from landfill. Whilst our work based around nature focuses on creating diverse habitats, growing and education. Connecting communities back to nature and teaching migrant communities about unfamiliar wildlife and plant life.
